My Everyday Makeup Bag

I have an annoying habit – I’m one of those people who owns a fair amount of makeup, but only uses a fraction of it on a regular basis. Same goes for clothes. Every so often I will switch it up with a different eyeshadow palette or lipstick but generally I stick with what I know and like. My go-to makeup look is a natural base, a pink matte liquid lip, eyebrows which look more like estranged third cousins than sisters, whatever eyeshadow look I feel like on the day, and shit tons of liquid eyeliner. I hope whoever ends up burying me makes sure I have a fierce cat eye.

I was quite late getting into makeup (later than most of the girls in my year anyway), I think I was about 15 when I properly started wearing makeup. I wouldn’t say I’m brilliant at putting on makeup, I’d still love a lesson on how to make my eyebrows look less shite and I’ll never be an Instagram model but I do get compliments on my eye makeup sometimes so I must be doing something right!

My eyes are my favourite feature so I try and play them up. If I only have 10 minutes to do my makeup I usually swipe on a cream eyeshadow stick, a quick cat eye and some mascara, and a natural base. I also fill in my eyebrows because when I was younger I shaved off half my eyebrows and they’ve never really been the same since so I have a bit of a complex about them. Lads, never ever shave your eyebrows.

So without further ado, here’s a quick roundup of my makeup bag staples.

Face

Foundation: Penneys PS BB Cream

I think Penneys have really stepped their game up recently – not just with clothes but their makeup is also pretty impressive too. Their foundations get a thumbs up from me. At the moment I’m using their BB Cream which has a lovely light coverage, but I also love their Velvet Finish and Longwear foundations. They’re so cheap and the bit that I love the most is that their palest shade actually matches my skin. I have extremely pale skin and the lightest shades of most foundations usually make me look like an Oompa Loompa so this is very surprising indeed. Bonus points for the fact Primark makeup is now certified cruelty free, yay!

Contour: Wet n Wild dual contour stick

I really like Wet n Wild makeup but I find it so hard to find in Ireland. I won a goodie bag of Wet n Wild makeup a while back and this was in it. It’s a really good, blendable contour stick with a highlight on the other end (which I don’t use as with my skin tone it’s more like a concealer) and it’s not too dark either which I like. I blend it out with a cheapy Penneys Beauty Blender dupe and I’m good to go.

Highlight: Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette

I love Sleek, I think it’s a great reasonably affordable brand with good quality products. Their highlighting and blush palettes especially are lovely. Solstice has 4 different highlighters in the 1 palette so it’s nice to switch up your highlighter without taking up loads of room in your makeup bag. Just be careful you don’t use too much of it or you might get that Tin Man look (unless you like that, in which case you do you!)

Blush: Penneys PS Mineral Blush

I got this fairly recently and I think it’s gorgeous. The pink tone really brightens up my skin and it’s a little bit shimmery too which I like. I think this was reduced to €1 so you can’t really go wrong for that price! Generally speaking I think Penneys range of blushers is really good and just so affordable.

Eyebrows: Penneys PS Brow Powder/Brow Liner

Another PS product! I promise this isn’t a sponsored post (I wish, ha). I’m a sucker for gimmicky makeup products, and I think a brow powder/liner is quite unusual. These two products took a little bit of time to get used to but once I did I was sold. I use the powder for a more natural look and the liner for more bold looks.

Powder: Seventeen Miracle Matte Powder

Unfortunately Boots have discontinued their Seventeen range, but that meant I ended up getting this powder for like €2 or something so that’s good. I like this powder, it isn’t cakey and it sets my makeup for the whole day.

Eyes

Eyeshadow: BPerfect Carnival Palette

This isn’t the only palette I use for my eyes but it’s the one I’ve been using a lot lately. My boyfriend bought this for me as I’d been lusting over it since it came out and he works in a pharmacy so he knows what’s up with makeup. Swoon. It’s such a beautiful palette, I just love the colours and the variety and how blendable the eyeshadows are. I also love the 2 highlighters in the palette. Beaut.

Eyeliner: Flormar Dipliner/Duo Eyeliner Pen

Another present from Laurence was the Flormar Dipliner, which is absolutely amazing in my opinion. I’d run out of my usual IsaDora one which is now discontinued (boo) but this one is just as good if not better. It doesn’t dry out, it’s really really black and it lasts on my eyes all day. I also find it really easy to use and create a cat eye with. If I have less time I use their Duo Eyeliner Pen which is also good, just not as strong.

Mascara: Catrice Lashes To Kill

I only got this recently as I’d run out of mascara, but generally speaking I love Catrice makeup and their mascaras are excellent. This is my favourite of theirs that I’ve tried so far and I’d definitely buy it again. It’s not clumpy but gives you killer long lashes.

For lips, I usually just put on whatever colour I feel like. Some of my fave lipstick brands are Sleek, Catrice, I also like the PS lip kits too. Most days I can’t be arsed to wear lipstick though unless I’m feeling fancy.

So that’s what’s in my everyday makeup bag! I hope this was interesting/informative for someone. Apart from the BPerfect palette everything in my makeup bag is really affordable, I wish I had the money to buy €50 foundations etc but unfortunately I don’t – I like my makeup collection nonetheless 🙂

P.S My (very well loved) makeup bag is from The Curious Needle in case you’re wondering!
